L's Summer Wardrobe #1

Since it's only January, I'm on a mission to make many pieces of clothing for L's summer wardrobe. And I figure if I start now it will be relaxing and not rushed like when you're making something for the season you're already in.

Here it is - Piece #1:
This is from Ottobre 4/2009 #21 "Anemone Stripes" tunic. I modified it to short sleeves and added 3 inches to the length to make it more of a long tunic for over leggings, but L is so tall it doesn't seem like I added 3 inches! This is made from 3 different Chez Ami fabrics, I just love the pears!

Handmade Monday

My little love and I needed a Valentine's Day craft to make, yes it's January but I wanted to put them up and enjoy them! I settled upon these crayon hearts: http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/crayon-hearts?comments_page=1

Our final result looks nothing like the photo in the instructions but that's okay because L and I had a blast. She loved shredding up her broken crayons and sprinkling them in the waxed paper. Sorry for the dreary photos, as you can see L's yellow room is the only place in the house that isn't dreary this time of year.

We decorated L's door.

Hung a few in the kitchen window.

And hung the rest from the corner of a shelf in by the kitchen table.

Tasty Tuesday

Even if no one is reading this blog, I am having a blast having a place to put my random thoughts!

Today for lunch I made this Turkey and Vegetable Sandwich from Kraft Foods. This is actually the second time I've made this, but this time was a more successful version since we actually remembered to buy the artichokes.

One thing I really try to do is modify recipes to things that we have in the house regularly. In this recipe it is the focaccia bread, while it is delicious, wheat bread is easier for us to have around. I chopped up and mixed the mixture with the Italian mix, but I used jarred roasted red bell peppers and fresh green bell pepper as well as a mix of black and green olives. I built my sandwich as instructed on 2 pieces of butter wheat bread and places it on the good old George Foreman and turned it into my own make-shift panini sandwich. Tasty! Even my picky 2 1/2 year old took a few bites of my sandwich!

Yay! I made myself something!

I successfully completed a wearable top for myself!! I think it is a good fit for the super stretchy Malden Mills/Polartec fleece. I have another planned with sweatshirt fleece but I think I will go up a size in that one so I can layer more under it. The fleece one I can only put a thin tank top under but it's super warm so that's okay. I think this size will be good for a lighter knit fabric as well but I still might alter the sleeve and at the wait to give me a bit more room.

Overall I'm very pleased with the outcome and the hubby is very impressed!

Photo Friday

I love Henrietta!

I think I have tried every "perfect hard boiled egg" tip out there, literally. There is something about my house that does not like to boil eggs. Weather it be the water, pots, stove or a combination, I have tried bottled water, switching pots, etc and I still loose half the egg with the shell. Even my mom, who can make perfect eggs at her house, tried at our house and they were still horrible. All of my egg troubles ended today when my husband and I went to buy a new frying pan, we also bought the Henrietta Hen egg cooker and tried it as soon as we got home. After a long 15 minutes waiting for them to cook, the eggs are perfect! My hard boiled egg nightmares are over! Every single egg peeled perfectly and the yokes are perfectly cooked!

I love my Henrietta!

Yes, it's the simple things in life that excite me!

Make Myself Something

In my goals for the new year, I said I wanted to make myself a piece of clothing. Posting this for the world to see, or atleast a couple people to see is making me get motivated to accomplish this goal.

I picked out pattern number 2911 by Jalie:

Night before last I traced the size that I think I should be by taking my measurements and comparing to their chart. And last night I made a test run of just the front and back to make sure I have the right size and I think I do! My final goal is to make the hooded version out of sweatshirt fleece, but for now I'm making the collared version out of regular fleece.

"Snow, It won't be long before we'll all be there with snow..."

"Snow, I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow..."

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! If you didn't know the tune of that song, that was Bing Crosby's Snow song from White Christmas. I am only 28 years old but I love the White Christmas movie! And the snow song is a perfect song to be singing right now as we are stuck in a lake effect snow storm that has been going on for days now. I think it's been snowing off and on for a couple weeks now but this latest storm has been our first lake effect storm of the season and it's been going on since Thursday. I LOVE it!!! I grew up where we got lots of ice which isn't as easy to deal with as snow. But what about all of the shoveling you ask? Really, snow is so much easier to deal with. You can't shovel ice out of your way.

I hope everyone had a happy, safe and healthy Christmas and I wish you the best for the New Year! And I look forward to lots of blog posts this year!
